I started Owlfood in 2003 as an exercise in a pure exploration of sound. I had been playing guitar in bands for a while but was interested in experimenting with other sonic textures. Snyths, drum machines, field recordings, broken microphones, utilizing every sound making device I had access to, in effort to write a compelling song. So I started writting music as Owlfood.

Somewhere in the process I started reducing synthesized sounds and relying again on acoustic instrumentation, recording sounds with microphones. I wanted intimacy and a honest space to draw a listener in. I also began experimenting and pushing the use of my voice.

Art School friend Michael Hutcherson and longtime collaborator with other projects began helping out with percussion and engineering sessions. We started pushing the sounds further. Exploring the uncomfortable and unknown.

Destroyers of the Moon was a herculean effort that started as a simple drawing. The project had many starts and stops as Michael went on the road as a tour manager for 8 months, and moved to a remote island in Maine. We wanted to collaborate and sought out musicians we respect to be involved. The art changed several times for various reasons, but settled back on the original concept of a landscape. Many technical/production challenges appeared and had to be sorted out. In the end, I'm not sure it could have come to be any other way. It stands now as the document.

Destroyers of the Moon will be released on a new project I've started called Behind the Door on April 3rd 2013

Thanks for reading.

Nate Hall from USX first solo record. Amazing songs that soar over the Appalachian mountains. Steeped in american music history, executed with pure honesty.

I helped with typography and design layout, photo effects, manipulation and collage.

No Statik, from Oakland, California is my new favorite band. Their songs are great - I listen to them all the time. They are everything I want from a current hardcore band. Chaotic, innovative, sincere, and raging. Look out for them.

Scott Kelly’s The Wake. I did the art and design layout for both the CD, from Neurot Recordings, and the European vinyl from Burning World Records. The LP is printed gorgeously, and pressed on heavy 180 gram gold vinyl.

I was 15 yrs old when I got Neurosis’ “Pain of Mind” cassette on Alchemy Records. That was in 1988, and I've invested a lot of time in Scott's music since then. I have nothing but respect for everything he has been involved in. I'm honored to have been asked by him to execute the art/design.

All images are hand painted, scanned, and manipulated digitally for color.
